Soak in the breathtaking desert landscapes along the road to the ancient city of Petra, where structures are carved into rose-red sandstone โ the very reason the city earned its legendary nickname: the Rose-Red City. Led by one of our most inspiring guides, this tour takes you through all the must-see highlights: the Siq, the Obelisk Tomb, stunning calligraphy, the Treasury, and the mountaintop royal tombs โ rounded off with a delicious lunch at an authentic Jordanian restaurant.
Tour itinerary to Petra: Pickup from Eilat at 6:50, border crossing at 7:30 AM, boarding the Jordanian vehicle and driving to Aqaba, then continuing to Petra via Wadi Yatam and the King's Highway โ approximately a 1.5-hour drive. Upon arrival in Petra, the ancient Nabataean city of the dead, you'll have the option of a short horse ride for those who wish, followed by a roughly 30-minute walk through Wadi Siq Musa โ a breathtakingly beautiful canyon โ leading to the dramatic entrance of the great and world-famous burial temple, the Treasury (Al-Khazneh). Petra is rightfully considered one of the wonders of the ancient world, with the full legacy of Nabataean culture spread across its magnificent rose-red rock carvings. The rest of the day, through the afternoon hours, will be spent exploring the remaining parts of this 2,000-year-old lost city: the Djinn Blocks, the Obelisk Tomb and Triclinium, the Royal Tombs, Jabal Madbah and the Theatre, the Byzantine Wall, the Colonnaded Street, the Temple of the Winged Lions, the High Place of Sacrifice, the Byzantine Church, and the Columbarium. On longer days, for groups with a faster pace or on private tours, a visit to the Deir (the Monastery โ offering a stunning viewpoint at the top of Jabal Al-Deir) is also possible. Lunch will be enjoyed at a restaurant in Wadi Musa before returning to the Arava border terminal in the evening. A stop in Aqaba may be included on the way back if time permits. For guests who find walking challenging, horse-drawn carriages suitable for two people are available (at an additional cost and with advance arrangement). For closed groups and private tours, a visit to the summit of Jabal Haroun (Aaron's Tomb), which includes a jeep ride to the top, can also be added for an extra fee.
Late lunch is served outside the site at around 16:00 โ we recommend packing a light snack in your bag. Petra is a truly remarkable site where even a full day feels like it's never quite enough.
