Porto and Gaia: Walking Tour of Douro's Two Riversides

This tour begins in the square of Henry the Navigator — also known as the Infante of Sagres — a key figure in Portugal’s Age of Discoveries and one of Porto’s most beloved historical characters. You’ll see the house where he was born and hear his story, essential to understanding how Portugal came to reach four continents.

In the same square stands Porto’s Stock Exchange, the first in Portugal and one of the city’s architectural gems. Just next to it is the Church of Saint Francis, a stunning example of Gothic and Baroque styles, and a reflection of the deep faith that has shaped Portuguese culture.

We’ll then descend into the oldest neighborhoods of the city: Ribeira and Barredo. We’ll explore what they were, what they are today, and how tourism and gentrification are shaping their future.
