Best Time to Visit
May to September offers warm Mediterranean weather perfect for beach activities and boat tours. July and August are peak season with the warmest temperatures but also the busiest crowds. Spring (April-May) and early fall (September-October) provide pleasant weather with fewer tourists, ideal for hiking and exploring the natural reserves.

Getting Around
Porto is a small village best explored on foot. A rental car is recommended for exploring the wider Corsican coast and reaching Porto from Ajaccio or Bastia airports (2-3 hours drive). Boat tours to Scandola Reserve and Calanques de Piana depart daily from the marina. No public transport connects the village, so having your own vehicle provides the most flexibility.

What to Pack
Bring swimwear, sunscreen, and water shoes for the rocky beaches. Comfortable hiking shoes are essential for exploring coastal trails and the Calanques. Light, breathable clothing for warm days and a light jacket for cooler evenings. Don't forget snorkeling gear if you have it, camera for stunning landscapes, and sun protection including hat and sunglasses.

Money & Payments
Euro is the currency used in Corsica. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels and restaurants, but carry some cash for small purchases and beach vendors. ATMs are available in the village center. Prices are higher than mainland France due to island location. Budget €30-50 per person for meals at local restaurants serving traditional Corsican cuisine.

Local Customs & Etiquette
Corsicans are proud of their distinct culture and language. Learn basic French phrases like "bonjour" and "merci" as English is less common than in major cities. Respect nature reserves by staying on marked trails and not disturbing wildlife. Beach etiquette is relaxed but topless sunbathing is common. Restaurants typically serve lunch 12-2pm and dinner 7-10pm.
